Kate + Zach – Queer Jewish Wedding

Kate and Zach have been dear friends of mine for many years, so when they asked me to photograph their fall wedding on the campus of Yale University, I jumped at the chance – I couldn’t have been been more honored to capture them “make it legal”! The weather was perfect – a few white clouds in a beautiful blue sky – when Kate and Zach were married in an outdoor Jewish ceremony in the Law School courtyard surrounded by family and friends. The couple recited their own vows, as their siblings held the posts to the chuppah and their parents looked on. After the ceremony, guests moved into the reception hall, which was the picture of academia – intricately detailed floor to ceiling windows, matched by long wooden dining tables, each named for an academic discipline. The hora was only the start of the celebration; guests danced the afternoon away as Kate’s brother Chris spun the tunes. Kate and Zach’s guests came together in a tremendous show of support for their legal union, and the pictures tell the story of their special day.

I aim to capture moments and expressions that tell the story of a day, and are authentic to the people involved. If you can look at a collection of images I’ve taken of a total stranger and get a feeling for who they are and what they felt, then I’ve done my job!
